Day #1 What Mezzrow means to me!
Back in the day there was a great community of jazzmusicians playing in the clubs! They mentored us just from the convos(Dexter,Mc Coy,Bill Evans,Elvin) on the breaks and the live show that happened 3 feet from your eyes. It was in Bradlee's that I met Joanne Brackeen, Kenny Barron, Wynton Kelley, Fred Hersch and John Hicks. I was able to walk up to them at 14 and ask for a lesson and "low and behold" my wish was granted. I was a fixture at the "front" table by the piano. My late dad Edward Nicolazzo would sit with me in the club to 3am while I watched the shredding! Then very soon after, he would drive me to Harlem, Chelsea or wherever to have a lesson...it takes so much support from your family to learn this music. Now, I am the featured artist...
Spike puts it all on the line for this music with his clubs and he's opening at 7:30pm with a solo piano set. Thanks!
